Chasing Shadows

You wasted no time making your way to Haldor’s Pass. When you got there, you followed the pull of Freyja’s presence to the best of your ability. No matter how far you climbed, you couldn’t find her. The mountain was far too quiet, quieter than normal even. No wind, no birds, nothing but your own pawsteps crunching through the snow. Dusk settled in rather fast, painting everything in heavy ominous shadows that made it difficult to see more than a few lengths in front of you.

After what felt like hours of searching for Freyja you happened upon something alarming. Blood. At first it was nothing more than a smear in the blanket of snow, then more, dragged along jagged stones that pierced the mountainside. Your stomach tightened as you followed it into the narrowing pass. A figure up ahead shifting in the underbrush caused you to hunker down and observe from a safe distance.

It was Ulfr, he was half lost to the low light, but you could just make out enough of his features to identify him. He was alone at first, but appeared to be looking for someone. Just as you considered stepping out and calling for him, another figure surfaced from the shadows. A shape you couldn’t fully make out, cloaked in long silks that shielded their face, slipped the very tome Freyja and you were searching for into the welcoming arms of Ulfr. Just as quickly as the figure surfaced, they disappeared back into the darkness of the underbrush.

Ulfr turned the tome over once, and then twice, almost as if he was contemplating something weighing heavy on his mind. He was about to tuck it away when you watched him hesitate, the tome slipped half way inside his satchel, tight within his grip. Curiously he allowed one paw to slide over the spine before he opened the tome wide. The reaction that followed was sharp and immediate.

A violent purple vortex lashed out from the pages angrily, swallowing him whole in spirals of light and wind. Snow lifted off of the ground, dancing in violent circles around both him and the tome. You burst forward in an attempt to help him, but the vortex was so violent it knocked you over. Fighting against it you clambered back to all fours and pressed closer to Ulfr, and when you were close enough to the tome you leapt upon it and slammed the tome shut against the wintery forest floor. It was at this point Ulfr dropped to the ground hard, the whirlwind of chaos coming to a screaming halt.

You approached Ulfr cautiously, an attempt to check if he was alright. Only he snapped awake with a snarl and lunged at you angrily. You stumbled backwards, taken by surprise, his snap mere inches from your face. It was at this moment you digested how wrong his eyes were, they were wild with fury, unfocused. He said nothing, and he didn’t seem to recognize you. After a few seconds of silence and confusion, and a wave of tense hesitation, Ulfr bolted into the trees, crashing through the underbrush until it slowly faded back into silence.

Grounding yourself was difficult, you weren’t sure what you just witnessed but the silence you found yourself in was short lived. Freyja burst out of the underbrush in the opposite direction, she was running so fast she nearly collided with you. “Oh thank the gods—it’s you.” She was shaking. “Everything’s a disaster. Fenrir followed me up here. I don’t think he knows it’s me, but he thinks he’s close to finding whoever betrayed him. We have to leave.” Fenrir’s shout rolled down the mountainside in the direction Freyja had just come from a moment ago. It was loud and close.

Without hesitation you and Freyja turned and bolted off into the forest. The two of you tore through the pass in the dark, stumbling over rocks and snow until your legs burned and the only sound behind you now was your own ragged breathing. Eventually the two of you found a ledge, a steep cliff behind you, and a small clearing in front. This was where Freyja forced together a fire with shaking paws.

“We can’t move in the dark,” she muttered. “Not up here. Not like this. One of us will need to stay awake, but we need to rest while we can.” You insisted she get some rest, she was clearly nervous and exhausted. No sooner did Freyja curl up against the fire, back to you, she fell into a soft slumber. Even in her sleep you watched her quake. You watched over her for some time, but exhaustion crept up upon you slow and heavy, and eventually your head lowered to your front legs as you fell into a slumber of your own.

Just as you settled into a deeper sleep a similar dream took the shape of a vision you once had. Freyja’s body hanging broken over Fenrir’s lifeless body. Ulfr and Bjorn fighting nearby as Ylva pleaded for them to make peace. The tomes glowing like scattered embers as they spiraled around the vision as it unfolded. The entire scene collapsed in on itself, causing you to jolt awake with your heart in your throat. Only when you opened your eyes, the fire was low, and Freyja was nowhere to be found.

It only took a moment for you to make sense of what was happening. Everything lined up all at once; Haldor’s Pass, Fenrir’s presence, Ulfr opening the tome, the blood trail, your vision. You already knew what was coming. The only question now was whether you could stop it in time or not.

Kindling Flames

With word quickly spreading of an event being hosted by Hel called The Hearthlight, many gather to aid in the efforts to assist the Yggdravixen for the winter to come. Determined to give the Yggdravixen the time and energy needed to recoup from their arrival, Hel calls out to any who are willing to contribute their supplies. A grand fire is not only lit at the heart of Norn’s Weave, but within the hearts of everyfel across the islands. Felvargs too had faced many challenges over the years, having become all too familiar with the feeling of an undetermined future. At the descent of the sun, they always had one another to support in recovering efforts, giving promise to a steady future. It was now time to pay that same generosity forward to the newest residents. With hope in your soul and a confident step of your paw, you waste no time in arriving at the grand gates that welcome you into Norn’s Weave.

As you pass the threshold into Norn’s Weave, you are politely greeted by a cluster of Yggdravixen who bow their heads in respect. You take notice of the eager flick of their tail, the spark that glitters in their eye, it was the same hope that you had seen many times before. It was the kindling that told you that this wasn’t the end of their story, it was only the beginning. As the scent of firewood floods your nostrils, you feel a chill in the air with a bitter breeze tugging at your coat. It sent chills down your spine, a daunting reminder of what is to come, a perilous winter with no mercy. With a gentle nudge, the Yggdravixen begin to guide you to a towering bonfire, the wood within illuminated with bright red embers, its roaring flames licking the sky high above. It shone bright and lit everyfel in a gentle orange hue, outlining their pelts in gold against the darkening sky. There you realize that you are one of the same; residents calling these islands home, each as deserving of a place in the world.

You prick your ears at the sound of Hel and begin to follow the source, soon finding her standing atop of a small platform just beneath the base of the bonfire. Her eyes spoke of great remorse, though her posture and heart were firm on mending the wounds of her grave mistakes. As you settle by the fire, subtle chatter floods the clearing. It grew in volume, washing out the crackle of the flames, anxiety and excitement prickling in the air. With a howl, Hel commanded the attention of those gathered. "No flame thrives alone," Hel shouts through the market stalls as Felvargs and alike begin to surround her, "Bring what warmth you can. Even the smallest of sparks can shelter the lost." Hel then pulled out a piece of parchment that had inscriptions carefully organized into lists. She places it firmly in your paw, then places her other paw atop to cup yours in a tight grasp. She held a hard, steady gaze. It was unwavering, no words needed to be spoken in that moment. You understood the importance of The Hearthlights' success.

Objective:

Depict or write your character hauling a satchel of overflowing goods as they make their way to Hel, delivering much needed supplies for the approaching violent winter. Hel awaits your arrival beside the towering bonfire at the heart of Norn’s Weave.

Reward:

1,000 Felcredits, 1x Light Hide 1x Medium Hide, 1x Heavy Hide, 1x Festive Lantern, 2x Aloe Vera, 1x Cornucopia, 1x Chest of Peace

Optional:

If your entry features a character owned by another player (and they are also receiving rewards), all participants will receive 1x Opal Pieces.

Fern

You squint your eyes against the sunlight as it reflects off of the freshly fallen snow. You place your paws in a calculator manor, careful as to not break the soft surface. You shuddered, not daring to think about how deep it went and as a result, how a pelt clumped in snow would feel should you fall through. You stop to sniff the occasional berry, carefully plucking stems full of the ripe, juicy morsels with a gentle nip of your front teeth. Before long, you had a satchel full of berries of all kinds of varieties, perfect to paw deliver to the local bakeries as they prepare for the influx of warm pastry orders. The world around you held a gentle silence, aside from the birdsong here and there as they flew from branch to branch upon the great oaks. With each flutter of their wings, small tufts of snow fell onto your coat, spraying flurries as they collided with your fur. Just as you crest a rise in the hill, you find yourself standing with a stunning view of the landscape below. You had wandered your way to the craggy cliffs, a summit that hosted a haven for all kinds of berries.

As you take a deep breath, you hear a beautiful bugle sound nearby. This wasn’t just any bugle, but the call of winter itself, Fern. Flicking your ears, you take notice of the subtle frustration that edged his cry. You cautiously walk the edge of the cliff until you happen upon the reindeer, his fur frosty as plumes of cold mist poured from his icy antlers. You watched in amusement as the stag stamped his hooves and snorted, a clear sign of annoyance. You look around, to find what once was a berry bush picked clean of its fruit. Upon closer inspection, you saw the juice of these succulent berries at the corners of Fern’s lips. It clicked, Fern wanted more of these berries, but not a moment too soon as Fern cried once again and threw his head, showing the tines of his antlers. He was pointing to the cliff edge, and with another stamp of his hoof, urged you to look.

There dangerously out of reach on the cliffside was a particular berry bush, the ripe fruit matching the same violet color that stained Ferns maw. You pin your ears back and stare at Fern in utter disbelief. He held his gaze on you expectantly. Surely he would take any berry? You quickly pulled out your satchel overflowing with your freshly picked berries and pushed a great many pawfuls in Ferns direction. Fern scooped up the berries within his mouth, your chest sighing with relief, until you watched the beast fling them over the cliff edge. Those would simply not do, it was clear he would not tolerate anything short of those specific berries. The glint of indignation sparkling in his eyes was enough to tell you as such, let alone your berries that were now a pile of mush below. With one last snort, Fern bowed his head, as if offering to help. You looked the beast up and down and wondered just how the two of you would manage, but alas, the King of Winter was not to be disappointed. The berries Fern wanted were in a spot most difficult to reach. You two will have to work together to devise a plan to obtain them safely, and preferably without dying in the process.

Objective:

Depict or write your character utilizing Fern in some way, to effectively help the two of you reach some berries Fern insists tastes better than the rest. The Peaks of Fenrir’s Incisor is frosted over this time of year but foliage still finds a way to force through the blanket of snow.

Reward:

1x Badge, 1x Berry Bush, 1x Pile of Snow, 1x Scroll of Mastery, 2x Mushrooms, 2x Flora, 50% Chance for 1x Stag Totem*

Chapter 5, Phase 3 - Storybook

Response To: 'Where the Waters Dream'

You pushed free of the waters trembling, your lungs burning with the memory of nearly drowning not once but twice in the span of a single day. Miðhafsey’s waterfalls still roared loudly in your ears even long after you tumbled through the portal and back into the somewhat safety of Helvalla. You couldn’t help but to feel jaded. Hel’s secrets were deeper than you ever realized. And for the first time, you understood exactly where the floods had erupted from when Helvalla nearly sank to the bottom of Hongerige. The weight of that truth settled over you like a sodden fur-cloak.

But even all of that paled to the one thought that refused to settle on you… Nightfall was back. And nothing good had ever followed in her dangerous wake.

With the Crescent Throne still empty and Sanctuary still rebuilding in Norn’s Weave, the islands were balanced on the edge of something unstable. Far too many portals were ripped open for you to give each one the weight it deserved to digest. The Yggdravixen had returned to Helvalla. The Brunrekka walked beside Felvargs and Hellhounds in Niflheim once more. And now? The Nattnkatt had been spotted on Helvalian soil. If one was seen, more would soon follow. Another species slipping into the fold. The seams between worlds meshing into one.

And Hel… Hel was still trapped in Miðhafsey, fleeing Vessra and her band of ravenous Nattnkatt. You weren’t sure if you pitied her, feared for her, or resented her—but despite all of that you knew she was on her own now. Unless Ylva managed to find her.

You shook the water from your coat and steadied your breath as best you could. Freyja’s words return to you then, as sharp as Ylva’s gaze as she demanded to know Hel’s location. She would find the tomes Fenrir had possession of and meet you in Norn’s Weave. It took the entire day for you to make your way back to the city, and as you trotted through its stone gates you couldn’t help but feel relief wash over you.

You made your way to Aurora’s hut—knowing full well she wouldn’t be there. When you entered you were met with a note resting atop a neat stack of tomes just inside the door. Freyja’s paw had penned the message to you personally.

'I tried to wait for you, and even had Uhma attempt to find you by means I dare not admit outloud.

I can’t stay here any longer. Here are the tomes.

I managed to get them all but one. Fenrir is suspicious as to where they’ve gone.

He is calling a meeting in 10 days time at the Shrine of Ragnarok to discover who betrayed him.

I believe the last tome to be in Haldor’s Pass, or so the whispers say.

Meet me there before it’s too late, and please hurry.'

Your chest tightened as you lowered the note in thought. Freyja had taken a great risk retrieving and bringing these tomes to Norn’s Weave for you. You took the night to rest, settling down in Aurora’s empty chambers where her scent still clung faintly to the many books and furs that lined her stone carved walls and shelves. It was a bittersweet comfort as you reflected. You could only hope Aurora was safe, wherever she was. She had taken the other tomes with her into Niflheim, and you had no clue how you were going to retrieve them just yet. But that was a problem for another day. A later you.

At the crack of dawn you boarded a ship bound for Ulfrheim. Crossing Hongerige would take a few days, and with only four remaining before Fenrir’s meeting, you wasted no time. The moment you docked at Hearth, you set off toward Haldor’s Pass. Freyja was waiting for you somewhere in those mountains. Fenrir was hunting for a traitor. Nightfall was somewhere in the fold. Hel was lost in Miðhafsey. Aurora was missing with half of the tomes in her satchel. And you? You could only keep moving forward as best you could. What you had planned to do when you found Freyja? Well.. only time would tell.

Stay tuned for the next Storybook prompt!

Happy Harvest Festival, felfam! Our Feltide Advent is live, and you may begin making purchases.

Every design from every day will be uploaded. While you’ll only see a halo until that days release, you will be able to view all accompanying data about the character. If you win a design, you’ll also have the option to choose a different gender before it is finalized. Cozy-tide and Magic-tide are USD days, and all other days can be purchased for RELICS or otherwise are free or require in-game currencies. For fairness, the custom-design days (excluding the free one) will be auctioned. To keep things from escalating too wildly, each auction will gain an autobuy—but only after roughly one hour of being live (we will give another announcement when they are placed in). This gives everyone time to breathe, review the design information, and bid without pressure. The auction will end when either the autobuy is triggered or when a bidder remains the highest for 12 hours straight. Each day will also include a strong hint outlining what you can expect, including how many items are inside and the total value of the day based on the last known pricing of each item. This year our system is automated, and the contents will be revealed around midnight EST each night. The contents where possible (that does not require us to hand-roll unique results) will be auto-deposited into your cache and the advent will be updated on a refresh.

This year’s Advent includes three days that award custom designs: - One more affordable day with Cozy-Tide, simpler custom designs with item art. (some of these designs also feature new markings and custom lines!)

- One completely free day (Feltide Day), where all you need to do is click a button for a chance to win one of three lovely designs with item art. (some of these designs also feature new markings and custom lines!)

One Magic-Tide day — the big boom moment. These designs feature brand-new markings, items, cosmetics, custom lines, and full array of magical themes

Happy Thanksgiving if you celebrate it, and we hope you enjoy Feltide! This year, we're most thankful for you!

Good morning, Felfam!

We have several important updates to share as we continue refining and expanding your Felvargs experience. Thank you all for your patience, excitement, and endless support as we work to make the game smoother, clearer, and far more enjoyable for everyone.
Let’s dive right in!

Activity Guide Update – Live

The Activity Guide has been fully updated and streamlined to make information easier to read and digest. While the new layout will still receive small polish updates, the guide has been condensed, relaxed, and made significantly more user-friendly.

Key Changes

  • Simple and Complex Activities now allow up to 3 Characters per entry (earning rewards), unless otherwise specified by the activity.

  • All other activities clearly declare their own limits and requirements.

  • Flexibility and rewards have been increased across the board.

  • Nothing has been taken away, only improved, clarified, and expanded.

> Soulmate System Overhaul – Live & Coming Soon!

The Soulmate Guide has been completely restructured for both security and optimization. Much like the new Activity Guide, it will continue to receive soft adjustments, but the system has already been rebuilt to be cleaner and easier to understand. Soulmate actions are temporarily paused while we prepare a major update to the system.

Key Changes
Soulmate progression will soon integrate directly with regular gameplay actions instead of requiring unique soulmate-only submissions. Simply play the game together, and your progress will automatically accumulate and level up retroactively! Requirements to level have been relaxed greatly, welcoming a calmer leveling experience. We will distribute all previous tiers unlocked, and back date any submissions on our website for a clean count!
You will no longer need to track or submit anything manually. Your daily gameplay will now feed directly into your Soulmate progress, and the system will handle everything, and even backdate!

Title Adjustments – Coming Soon

While this update is not live yet, we want to give the community a preview of the changes coming to Titles. Titles will no longer require unique, standalone tasks to earn (aside from those tied to events or natural achievements like subduing beasts). Instead:

✔ Players will purchase ALL Traits from the Village Market. Overachiever will be overtaken by Title Tracker I and applied automatically to any Character with Overacheiver already applied. These traits are not breedable. Overachiever will be removed from genotypes.
✔ Once applied, that trait unlocks the ability to find additional titles of that trait while participating in relevant activities.
✔ Traits will tier up and stack, increasing in effectiveness as you progress.

Example:
Common — Title Tracker I – Chance to return titles in Adventure, Tracking, Fishing
Uncommon — Title Tracker II – Chance to return titles in Mountaineering, Excavating, Diving
etc. etc.

Pack System Revamp – Coming Soon

The Pack system is receiving one of its largest updates to date, and will officially shift fully off DeviantArt.

Key Changes

  • A brand new Shop with additional items for quests and gameplay.

  • Full page customization

  • Custom ranks and member organization.

  • Cleaner, more immersive interface.

  • All pack management, creation, edits, adding/removing characters, handled on site.

  • Players can request to join recruiting packs to send requests directly to Pack Owners/authorized users.

We hope you’re all enjoying Harvest Festival!

Don’t forget to cast your vote for Felvarg of the Month for a chance at relics and other great prizes, as well as fetching yourself a Varglotto ticket/chance at Potluck!
The month closes soon and you have to be in it to win it! As always we appreciate you!
