Storybook: Intermission

Weeks have passed since your return, yet the world you once knew no longer feels quite the same. In your absence, things have changed, for better or worse is to be determined. Life continued onward without you, leaving you uncertain of your place in the world and whofel hadn’t noticed your absence.

But now, at last, you’ve returned to life you once knew. Whether burdened by what you witnessed beyond the veil or truths you may have uncovered along your path to return, just like the world changed, you changed. Perhaps for you it is subtle or even impossible to ignore. The familiar no longer feels entirely familiar and your new balance is something you will need to learn pawstep by pawstep.

What happened during your absence? What truths, fears, or knowledge did your character come to carry in the weeks they had missed? You will need to return to the world you once knew, adjusting to its many changes, and to the changes within yourself.

Objective:

Depict or write your character returning to a place they once called home; somewhere that was once familiar and safe, or to somefel they may have left behind. How does your character handle the weight of all that’s transpired against the nagging feeling that they should be grateful to be home? How do they adjust to their return? Do they struggle with the idea that nofel noticed they were even gone, or are they at peace with themselves? Perhaps they discover that their loved ones had been searching for them all along, determined to find a piece of who they used to be. Be sure to include an official location in your entry. (ulfrheim, jormungandr, or helvalla)

Blink

With the coming of night, a peculiar phenomenon had most anyfel perplexed. As a warm wisp rippled the crystal clear reflection of the lake's water, stars began to speckle into view from the sky above. The water lapped hungrily at the banks, urging you to step into the refreshing relief it has to offer. With a slow plunge, you waded out into the shallows, the calm water now gently disturbed by your movement. It ebbed and flowed with your rhythmic paddling, welcoming you joyously as it seemed to dance with your form. Bubbles swirled around your paws as you swam, ticking the fur at your chest as they breached the surface. Relishing in the black water, reflections were as clear as any mirror. You watched the reflection of yourself as the water sucked at your fur with the moon cresting just behind your head, almost like a halo. Then you saw it, with an alarming flash of your own gaze you drew back from the water.

Your reflection had blinked back at you, eyes steadily focused on themselves. Your gaze darted around, though you did not dare look away from your own reflection for too long. Perhaps it was a trick of the eye? You peered back into the moon's reflection, it wriggled in the waves that matched your now rapid breathing. Surely it was just the light causing a delay in your head, confusing you on what you saw. Heart thumping in your ears, you looked back down and briefly squeezed your eyes closed. Prying them open, you quickly stare into the water. There it happened again, your maw twisted with disbelief as your very reflection equally squeezed its eyes closed, then flicked back open with the same amazement. No, the moon couldn’t possibly play such a trick, this was an event of sheer astonishment.

Your mind swirled just as the water did, the depth as deep as your own thoughts. Wading back to the shore, you shook your coat, spraying droplets of water to the ground. Contemplating, you thought of what to do with such a phenomenon. Questions flicked by rapidly - could this be a sign? Perhaps something to share or seek knowledge on? You alone could not make sense of it, but your heart urged you to peer again, to understand why it was you that happened across these waters to witness your delayed reflection. As the silence of the night pressed in, you took a deep breath and stared onward.

Objective:

Depict or write your character staring into one of Ulfrheim’s lakes when they notice their reflection blink after they do. Show them approaching the water, confronting the delayed reflection, or seeking guidance to understand what they have witnessed.

Terror of the Deep

With the season's onslaught of seemingly nonstop rain, it brought with it a whirlpool of tides that swallowed the shores of Hongerige so viciously that most anyfel would be swept away in a blink. Many had gathered at the Docks of Hearth as they watched the relentless ocean churn and foam, the waves eager to lap at the sodden wood underpaw. With a groan, the wood panel beneath your paws creaked as you reached the end of one of the docks. With the rising sun, it was now turning into low tide, the water taking its brief leave, revealing a sandbar far out in the distance. As the waves made one last grab at the sandy shore, it receded at last, revealing a beautiful shore choked in shells, seaweed, and shallow pools.

What had appeared to be a moment of peace was abruptly interrupted by violent thrashing of fins against shallow water. Squinting against the sun that pierced the horizon was a form kicking up sand and debris as it wriggled side to side. Through the heat waves rising from the sand, the form came into shape, revealing Terror of the Deep who laid beached at the sandbar. Colors of crimson seeped and oozed from various wounds upon his sleek skin, the shallows meekly wicking it away as it pooled and stained the sand. By the weakening thrash of his tail, there was no time to lose.

You leapt from the docs with several other helping paws hot on your heels, one of them being Hel with a vial clutched tightly in her maw. She gestured for you to slow to her pace. She then tossed the vial your way and exclaimed with a pant, “The hide of a shark is thick and leathery, no ordinary salve will heal such wounds!” She stopped in her tracks, spraying sand in her wake as you raced ahead, she bowed her head before reeling around to bolt back to the docks in case more healing salves needed to be brewed. Seaweed threatened to slow you down, tangling around your legs as you made a sprint for Terror of the Deep. Legs burning, you finally slow down to a trot, your paws sinking in the wet sand. Careful to stay within the beast's field of vision as you approached, your movements were slow and intentional. His gills flared in panic as he read your gaze, the promise of the tide returning was too far out. It was up to you to tend to his wounds and see him back to the ocean.

Objective:

Depict or write your character tending to the Terror of the Deep’s wounds with the healing salve given to you by Hel, with the intention to guide him back into the ocean.

Reward:

1,000 Felcredits, 1x Sunken Treasure, 3x Aloe Vera, 1x Empty Vials, and a 25% chance for 1x Import Background Set: Hongerige

The adoption center has been updated and will now have various species and builds available both in genotypes and uploaded pre-designed characters. All genotypes have been updated to also have a chance to include the new common and uncommon markings most recently added to our gene pool. While genotypes are already implemented entirely, it will be a few days before the new species begin to fill the Adoption Center.

As you return to the life you used to live, you recognize that you are not who you used to be. You must grapple with the weight of all that's occurred - are you struggling to find your footing, or are you at peace with yourself and the world you've returned to? Come and delve deep into your character's return to what they once knew as home in this Storybook intermission, a chance to take a breath and ground yourself once more.
