The Heart of the Storm

Aurora should have known better. Every inch of her body warned her against crossing into Ulfrheim in search of Loki. She was more than aware of the curse that kept the two apart; it had pained them both for many years now. Fenrir had warned her. Freyja had warned her. Even Hel, despite everything that had transpired between the three of them, had warned her. Much like when the two shared time together on Helvalla, Ulfrheim too would quake.

Yet none of that mattered now.

Hel had made it clear the two of them could exist together in Hymnlaeja, and Aurora would stop at nothing to find him, to find her lover and tell him all she had learned. She had crossed worlds in search of him. Traversed Niflheim, survived Grimara, survived Hymnlaeja, and endured every impossible thing fate had thrown at her. She was tired of choosing reason over her own heart. Tired of the sorrowful nights she found herself gazing up at the stars praying Loki would form within them.

The moment her paws made contact with Ulfrheim's soil, the island answered in a fit of blind rage.

A violent quake nearly unsteadied her as locals far and wide erupted into panic. The storm raging over Haldor’s Pass only roared more fiercely, lightning striking so bright it could be seen from miles away. It was no ordinary lightning, no, it was webbed in hues of blood-red and sorrowful blues. The storm that had raged endlessly over the mountain suddenly shifted. The lightning no longer followed its ominous familiar paths through the heavens above. Instead, it converged violently upon itself, twisting into a furious spiral that illuminated the entire island with blinding flashes of blue and black. The air itself grew thick with grief.

Just when silence fell and everyfel thought the worst of the storm had passed, Haldor’s Pass split apart.

The crack thundered across Ulfrheim with enough force to shake every city, village, and hollow. Stone erupted skyward as centuries of the mountain gave way beneath the unimaginable pressure below. What began as nothing more than a fracture very quickly became an obvious wound. Haldor’s Pass groaned before tearing itself apart from the inside out, peaks splitting in two as a valley revealed a chasm so deep that the darkness itself seemed to spill from it eagerly.

You yourself were on your way to Haldor’s Pass, unaware that the Alphas had been trailing your movements from afar. Oracle had established a camp of his own, nestled along the northern reaches of the pass. And as fate would have it, that was precisely where you were going. Unbeknownst to either side, you were both caught in the eye of the storm, and you weren’t alone. A familiar voice cracked through the calm as you tucked yourself in the underbrush to observe.

It was Nightfall. She stood at the edge of the abyss with satisfaction painted across her face. Months of preparation had led to this very moment. Months spent hidden from sight while every Alpha searched elsewhere for answers. Beside her the darkness within the chasm churned and writhed like a living thing that bowed before her. Magic crawled up its walls while lightning poured downward into its darkest depths. Nightfall lowered her gaze into the void and smiled as her voice echoed.

“Wake up,” she demanded.

Before the words could even finish, the chasm roared. Massive steel plates emerged from the darkness first, forcing their way through collapsing stone as if Haldor’s Pass itself was trying to send them back to the depths where they belonged. Lightning wrapped around each sheet of metal, cradling it in a loving embrace. A blinding blue light whirled at the center of it all, so bright that you had to shield your eyes, and when you refocused on the darkness you were met with hooves striking rock. Orvar surged free from the chasm as his screams drowned out the storm.

Darkness erupted outward from his body in a surge that swept across Ulfrheim like a tidal wave. What was left of day vanished beneath it, plunging the entire island into an eternal darkness. Forests disappeared beneath blackened skies. The storm that had once belonged only to Haldor’s Pass expanded across the entire island now, consuming every horizon in a violent burst of lightning. Thunder rolled endlessly overhead as rain began to fall.

Nightfall watched it all unfold without a shred of remorse in her eyes. It wasn’t until you heard her release Orvar that fear settled deep within her chest. You could see Fenrir and some of his trusted kin watching both you and her from the underbrush on the other side of the chasm.

“For Hel,” Nightfall roared.

“For every wound you have inflicted upon me, sister.”

Nightfall snapped her jaws in Orvar’s direction, the beast turned and fled, thunderous hooves carrying him across Haldor’s Pass. Lightning split the heavens above while darkness spilled from the chasm behind him. He dared not to look back.

Nightfall’s expression twisted into something bitter as she watched him disappear into the storm.

“Ulfrheim will bleed!”

The words echoed across the pass as Nightfall turned to make eye contact with you. For a moment time felt as though it stood perfectly still. All you could hear was your heartbeat, pounding in your ears. Pulling yourself from the underbrush now, Nightfall gifted upon you one final smirk before leaping bolding into the chasm below, allowing it to claim her.

Objective:

Depict or write your character standing before the chasm that split Haldor’s Pass in two. The divide stretches for miles, while magic churns through the chasm and darkened skies above as the storm continues to rage on. Give your character a moment to take it all in, feeling small against the sheer might of the chasm.

Reward:

1,500 Felcredits, 1x Chest of War, Peace, Power, Knowledge, 1x Freyja's How To: Birds and Bees*, 1x Spellbound Unicorn Skull, 1x Cluster of Timeworn Tears, 50% Chance for 1x Oracle's Rune of Sacrifice*

Blink

With the coming of night, a peculiar phenomenon had most anyfel perplexed. As a warm wisp rippled the crystal clear reflection of the lake's water, stars began to speckle into view from the sky above. The water lapped hungrily at the banks, urging you to step into the refreshing relief it has to offer. With a slow plunge, you waded out into the shallows, the calm water now gently disturbed by your movement. It ebbed and flowed with your rhythmic paddling, welcoming you joyously as it seemed to dance with your form. Bubbles swirled around your paws as you swam, ticking the fur at your chest as they breached the surface. Relishing in the black water, reflections were as clear as any mirror. You watched the reflection of yourself as the water sucked at your fur with the moon cresting just behind your head, almost like a halo. Then you saw it, with an alarming flash of your own gaze you drew back from the water.

Your reflection had blinked back at you, eyes steadily focused on themselves. Your gaze darted around, though you did not dare look away from your own reflection for too long. Perhaps it was a trick of the eye? You peered back into the moon's reflection, it wriggled in the waves that matched your now rapid breathing. Surely it was just the light causing a delay in your head, confusing you on what you saw. Heart thumping in your ears, you looked back down and briefly squeezed your eyes closed. Prying them open, you quickly stare into the water. There it happened again, your maw twisted with disbelief as your very reflection equally squeezed its eyes closed, then flicked back open with the same amazement. No, the moon couldn’t possibly play such a trick, this was an event of sheer astonishment.

Your mind swirled just as the water did, the depth as deep as your own thoughts. Wading back to the shore, you shook your coat, spraying droplets of water to the ground. Contemplating, you thought of what to do with such a phenomenon. Questions flicked by rapidly - could this be a sign? Perhaps something to share or seek knowledge on? You alone could not make sense of it, but your heart urged you to peer again, to understand why it was you that happened across these waters to witness your delayed reflection. As the silence of the night pressed in, you took a deep breath and stared onward.

Objective:

Depict or write your character staring into one of Ulfrheim’s lakes when they notice their reflection blink after they do. Show them approaching the water, confronting the delayed reflection, or seeking guidance to understand what they have witnessed.

Reward:

1,000 Felcredits, 1x Waterlogged Goods, 5x Water Lily, 1xEye Mutation, 1x Pristine Trap Netting*, 50% Chance at 1x Seahorse*

Brunn

The Path of Valhalla had grown unusually restless as of late. While attempting to navigate the twisting pathways, an overwhelming sense of dread wrapped around you like an itchy wool blanket. It prickled at the back of your ears like a premonition just moments before a sharp, bone chilling roar rumbled through the woods. Your hackles prickled at the sound. It was alarming, yet it settled uncomfortably in your chest like a plea for help rather than a threat. You instinctively turned towards the sound and pushed your way through the underbrush as branches scratched and pulled at your pelt. Just as you breached the brambles, you were met face to face with Brunn, nearly toppling into him.

Brunn noticed you immediately. His eyes held yours, fear flickering behind darkened pupils. Brunn lowered his head and released a snarl that reverberated from deep within his chest. Brunn immediately attempted to step back, creating distance between you and him. As he moved, you noticed he held all his weight on his left side, barely setting his right front paw on the ground. Your body remained frozen in place, unable either to flee or approach the great beast. You focused your gaze on Brunn’s right paw only to notice a large wooden splinter wedged in the paw pad. A soft crimson hue stained the fur between the pads and spilled like ink onto the surrounding blades of grass.

Your chest tightened to see the beast of legend, Brunn himself, crippled by a shard of wood. In the corners of the clearing, a patch of grass pressed firmly against the dirt in the shape of him suggesting he had been here for quite some time before you stumbled upon him. You take a quiet step forward, pinning your ears back so as not to appear threatening in an attempt to get close to the mighty bear and lend him your aid. Brunn’s eyes widened as he suddenly lashed out, swiping his injured paw in your direction. You stumble backwards, almost losing your footing on the slick grass. As your heart raced, you realized that this was not an attack but a reflex. If you are to free Brunn from his thorn, you will need patience and careful planning.

Objective:

Depict or write your character somehow figuring out a way to remove the thorn from Brunn’s paw without further injury, yours or his.

Reward:

1,000 Felcredits, 1x Thorn of Fenrir, 1x Aurora’s Vial of Fortune, 1x Healing Salve, and a 50% chance for 1x Mutation: Claws
