Personality:
No one really knows where Gears comes from and if you ask him, he'll tell you a different story each time.
A little rough around the edges for sure and has an unusual fascination with metal (which many suspect is where his name comes from) and often wanders Ulfrheim in search of it. Some say he can craft with it like some human that used to roam the land ages past, or, perhaps from the ancient dwarves, and that his scar is from an accident whilst he was forging it.
However, Gears himself, will tell you that he fought a terrible beast, almost losing his eye in the process. The Felvarg was victorious in his battle, but only just. The scar is a constant reminder of how close he came to death and to never let his guard down. There seems to be some truth to this tale as he doesn't seem to be able to relax around others. Some wonder if he lost someone close to him in that beast attack and that's why he doesn't get close to others, but none have ever asked him and he certainly won't tell any more than he already does.
Whatever the truth to Gears past, one thing is apparent; he's a very skilled hunter and tells a good story if you put enough mead into him.
