Personality
Unlike most beings, Roshar was not born into the world out of love or longing; instead, he was created by Nightfall to be a destructive force. With his first breath, his existence was tied to one purpose and one purpose alone- destruction. Each time he is used as a weapon to bring forth his power, his body becomes riddled with pain as his crystalline spines resonate with energy that surges through him.
Roshar carries himself like a fault line ready to set off at any given moment. Every movement is deliberate, every breath carefully measured, as though the world itself might fracture and crumble with a singular misstep. Though his perpetual scowl is often mistaken as malice, it is, in truth, vigilance- a constant effort on his part to keep the destructive nature instilled within him at bay. The power to destroy comes to him effortlessly, flowing through him without resistance, and it is this eagerness of his magic that causes him tread with caution.
He is deeply observant, a trait that Nightfall chose to sharpen through his conditioning. She taught him how to see the world and its inhabitants as fracture points and weaknesses, to understand just how easily things could be broken down. As Nightfall intended to create obedience within her living weapon, she instead cultivated awareness. His habit of observing and calculating before active reveals an unexpected sense of responsibility; one that she never intended for him to possess.
Although destruction was the role assigned to him, defiantly he fights back against it. In solitude, he creates wondrous crystalline formations, finding solace among fallen ruins and decaying forests where he replaces what is lost with stunning crystallized echoes. These moments of creation are kept solely to himself, as he knows Nightfall would forbid him bringing beauty into the world.
Unlike his sister, Keres- whom was cursed to be emotionally deadened- Nightfall burdened Roshar with an overwhelming need to obey. His emotions run rampant within him, dangerously abundant. Anger, guilt, and a sense of loyalty surge fiercely through him. Forged in darkness, Roshar stands as a living contradiction: a weapon questioning his purpose, a prisoner that urges to be free of his shackles, and a force of devastation whom longs to be more than what he was made to be.
