Personality
Venatrix may come off as a bit slow, or at the very least, uneducated. And perhaps she is. She has a very odd, clipped way of speaking which often comes off as blunt and perhaps rude. She is very curt, and has no filter. She also seems rather oblivious to what some may find offensive. Even so, she is genuine at all times, couldn't lie to save her life, and has a soft spot for pups (but no idea how to care for them.)

She an apt survivalist, and a formidable fighter. Her years of experience fighting for her life has left her with no qualms concerning bloodshed, nor would she hesitate to take a life if it meant saving others. She’s willing to do the dirty work, whether that be fighting another felvarg or simply butchering whatever her comrades caught during a hunt.
History

Venatrix could never live up to her father's expectations. He knew that from the moment he'd set eyes on her. As a result, she was sent off to a deserted island for what he called education. Venatrix didn't learn until much later that he'd actually abandoned her, leaving her to the mercy of the ones who owned that island--a pack that called themselves the Goldbloods.

Most of Venatrix's life was spent alone on that island, leaving her to survive alone, fending for herself however she could manage. However, every so often she would be picked up and set to fight selected Goldblood members to test her abilities. She'd been trained to fight since she could walk, and her strength was barbaric even for a titan.

This lifestyle toughened her, but at a cost. She never learned to read, and any interactions she had with felvargs that were not hostile were often awkward and short lived. Her strange, clipped and sometimes backwards way of talking deterred many, and if that didn't throw them off then her lack of a filter did.

That was until she met Meraud. The one-eyed Inquisitor wasn't like the others who had come to check on her. Sure, he came off as cold and ruthless at first, but once she let it slip that she hated the Goldbloods and did not want to be on the island alone forever, his demeanor completely shifted. He promised to return for her, but it was a promise he wouldn't be able to complete for years to come.

Eventually Venatrix was subjected to several experiments at the hands of various researchers. She still doesn't know if her ever growing strength has anything to do with those tests or not. She never had any affinity for magic, and none of the experiments performed on her resulted in any such thing.

Still, thanks to her bloodline, her tormentors refused to give up hope. They set loose monsters on the island, forcing her to fight for her life constantly. There wasn't a day of her life when she didn't have to look over her shoulder. Sometimes she wondered if those tests were actually just some sort of sick game the researchers played to keep themselves entertained. Perhaps she was right, in part.

During her last couple years of captivity, things changed. Fewer and fewer Goldbloods came to the island to check on her, and those visits became rather infrequent. She took that time to attempt building a boat. Knowing that it needed to be large and sturdy enough to withstand the winds and waves of Hongerige, and that discovery would mean its destruction and possibly her own death, progress was slow. Part of her wanted to give up altogether, not knowing if Meraud would show up like he'd promised, or if he'd died or perhaps given up on her.

She was only halfway finished with the ship when Meraud did return to fulfill his promise to her. Together they made their escape and joined the Vattarmen Vada pack. While both of them were tired of fighting, both of them knew that they would have to continue the fight regardless. After so long of knowing nothing but fangs, claws, and blood, Ven honestly couldn't imagine anything else for herself. So, in spite of Meraud telling her she had a choice, she chose to join the Vada's military. It was a choice he respected, though she knew it made him a little sad too. Truthfully (and she has told him this) she doesn't understand why he feels that way. In her opinion, if there is one of them who needs to retire, it is him. She is well aware that the amount of suffering he holds inside him is far beyond hers, and it breaks her heart to see it reflected in his one good eye. Even so, he refuses to separate himself from the fight, and she respects that.

Relationships

Venatrix and Meraud bonded over trauma during a time when both of
them were captives in their own rights. One was abandoned by her father
to a fate with the goldbloods, the other was trapped in a living hell
he'd voluntarily stayed in in an attempt to help save the world from the
very same cult. Both of them were robbed of a chance at a normal life,
and both of them were forced to do things they never would have dreamed
of had they had a choice.

It wasn't until their second meeting,
when Meraud returned to fulfill a promise of rescue, that they realized
there was something more between them than just comradery.

If not
for the fact that they both serve in separate factions within their
pack, the two would be inseparable. As it is, they both trust each other
to stay alive against all odds, choosing to continue the fight against
the Goldbloods in spite of the normal life they both wished for.

They
are each other's lifelines, keeping each other sane. Meraud knows that
without Venatrix's blunt yet honest conversations, and her willingness
to listen and simply offer comfort when depression hits, he would have
broken under the weight of his past rather than somehow becoming
stronger for it.

Likewise, Venatrix knows that without Meraud,
she would still be trapped on a deserted island fighting for the
approval of a father she haded, and who wasn't even watching.

Adopted Daughter

Once upon a time, Venatrix
saved a 'puppy' from becoming a Goldblood sacrifice. That puppy turned
out to be a young dwarf (not a puppy) named Aneska. It took Venatrix an
embarrassing amount of time to realize (and accept) that Aneska is in
fact a dwarf and not a pup. By that time Aneska had simply accepted
Odalys's protection. She was young and had been taken captive by the
Goldbloods two years prior. She didn't remember her parents, so had
never really had a mother or father figure in her life. So, when
Venatrix (as poor of a parent as she may be) openly tried to be a
guardian figure of sorts, Aneska couldn't help but just go along with
the fantasy.

By the time Venatrix returned from this mission with
her new 'daughter' in tow, Ven was well aware of Aneska's true age.
Even so, she continues to treat Aneska as an adopted daughter, and
Meraud also accepted the role of an adoptive father.

Aneska was quick to join the scouts faction, and settled in nicely with the rest of the pack.

Soulmate Description

Venatrix met Meraud when he was on a mission as an Inquisitor. She hadn't been sure of his true purpose at first since he'd seemed rather surprised to find her there. Turns out no one had told him that he was being used as a test to determine if Venatrix would kill someone on site, or listen to a Goldblood superior. Once he revealed that he was actually a Vada spy, he promised that he would find a way to help her escape. He knew he couldn't help her immediately, so he promised he would return for her when he made his own escape.

Both of them knew that it would be years later. Attempting to help her at the time would likely have resulted in both of their deaths, or at the very least would have revealed Meraud's true loyalties. Venatrix, understood this, and was perfectly content with staying put. They both just had to hope that she wouldn't be moved before Meraud returned. Luckily, Ven wouldn't be captured so easily.

So, when Meraud made his escape with the aid of the Vada scouts and a ship they'd acquired for him, he took a risky detour back to that deserted island to fulfill his promise to Venatrix. Unfortunately by then the Goldbloods had caught onto what was happening, and Azeem sent his right paw Archon to find Meraud. This led to a very narrow escape, with the two escapee's being forced to take a very roundabout way back to their ship, which had been put under watch by more of Azeem's followers.

It was during the months following their escape--their time on the road as they journeyed to the Vada base, that they realized they were soulmates. They bonded over their shared captivity and childhood trauma. Both of them had been forced to do things neither would have chosen to do otherwise had their situations been different, and that shared grief and guilt gave them an understanding of each other that no other felvargs could reach.

Venatrix is very protective of Meraud, just as he is of her, though she is much more confrontational than he is. Meraud is patient and fatherly, while Venatrix is blunt and sometimes can come off as offensive. To most they may seem an odd pair, but those who know them also know that they are each others lifelines.
