Personality:

Nikolaj is the young companion of Genadi and is supposed to be Genadi's apprentice, but is often found goofing off and playing when he should be paying attention. He is a high energy felvarg always looking for excitement and doesn't always pay attention to danger. A troublemaker and a flirt with the female vargs, Nikolaj gets on Genadi's nerves at times, but Nikolaj has a natural knack for problem solving and can often figure out andcient riddles and runes quicker than what his master can. Despite their disagreements and all of Niko's wild antics, they make a good scholarly team in the end.

HISTORY

Ever since he was born, Nikolaj could hear voices all around him. He called them the "Whispers" and they would often sing hymns and tell him stories in an ancient, forgotten language, but through these Whispers, Nikolaj learned their tongue. They brought joy to Nikolaj and he even considered them to be his dear friends. However, listening to these Whispers and following them into an unknown part of the forest caused Nikolaj become lost and incapable of finding his way back home. He found himself in a mysterious place known as the Vale of Whispers, where there were too many Whispers around him to know which direction would be the way to lead him back home. It was a fun place to explore, but the young puppy was growing tired and hungry, yearning for the warmth and comfort of his mother and other puppies. For the first time in his life, Nikolaj began to distrust the Whispers who he had befriended for his whole life. He then began to howl longingly for help; his voice echoed across the Vale.

The song Nikolaj howled was an ancient one he had learned from the Whispers. It was the only song he knew and he had forgotten he had learned it from them. This caught the attention of an archaeologist felvarg by the name of Genadi who was exploring the Vale at the time. It was rare to hear the language of the ancients he studied and the song immediately caught his attention. He explored the Vale in search of the source and was surprised to stumble upon such a young puppy. Upon his discovery of this lone puppy with no parents or pack around, Genadi decided to take him into his care as an apprentice archaeologist, though somewhat selfishly to learn about all of the songs Nikolaj somehow knew. At the time, Nikolaj didn't seem to remember his own name so Genadi was the one to name him "Nikolaj" in reference to the song that had drawn Genadi to him on that fateful day in the Vale.

Felvarg: 3-Ylva

Nikolaj first met Ylva in the Shrine of Ragnarok where Nikolaj then explains to her that he was searching for his mother ((ref: Search for Moonstones)). Ylva believes she had seen Nikolaj before, when he was a small puppy, and sends him on a quest to search the Great Maw for moonstones for her. She believes he would find some answers there if he did, though instead of finding his mother, Nikolaj learned to trust his Whispers a little more along the way.

Relationships

Felvarg: 2969-Nootka
Nootka is Nikolaj's sweet little niece. He is protective of Nootka and is always trying to impress her to show how cool of an uncle he is. Nikolaj can get a little carried away with this, though, and doesn't realize when Nootka is manipulating him. Even so, they have a loving family relationship and Nikolaj is glad she is with them.

Felvarg: 2912-Oddball Imba
Imba is an old brute Nikolaj made an awful lot of fun of when they first met, but after seeing how strong and protective he was, Nikolaj quickly came to respect him. They have a funny bond and Nikolaj cares for Imba mutually, wanting to work with him again in the future whenever they can. He wonders a lot about Imba's past and likes to hear the old brute's stories.

Felvarg: 1805-Senua
Nikolaj found Senua injured in the Path of the Fallen and ever since then she has acted as a sort of bodyguard for him. He welcomes her company greatly, even if he does find her dedication to be a little odd, he thinks she is basically good. He is glad to have her by his side and trusts her. Mostly.

Felvarg: 2801-Heleka
Nikolaj butts heads with Heleka often, thinking she is far too bossy and yet he is also very much amused by her. From early on in their relationship, he figured out her insecurities in life and finds her interesting, as well as beautiful, even when she metaphorically bites his head off. He wishes she didn't have such lofty goals and was more down to earth.

Felvarg: 302-Genadi
Genadi is Nikolaj's teacher as well as the felvarg who found him and raised him since puppyhood. Nikolaj looks up to Genadi despite often not doing as Genadi tells him to do. Nikolaj follows along during lessons most of the time, though he admits he finds archaeology to be a little on the boring side to him. However, Nikolaj is slowly warming up to the subject as time goes on.
