Personality
“I run away from you, I’m falling through, I know that I must leave this all behind…”

Willow is a kind, but troubled soul. The abuse and neglect he endured as a pup left lasting scars of anxiety, self-doubt, and a painful longing to be loved that is overshadowed by his own intense fear of being abandoned and discarded.
These traits are rarely seen by others, outwardly Willow is polite, sophisticated, and self-assured. He typically comes off as aloof at first, a quiet soul who prefers not to engage in small talk, but will nevertheless respond politely to any who insist.
Willow is the type who needs everything to be neat and tidy, he thrives on order and sound structure. Routine is his friend, he despises disruptions and changes in plans. He hates getting dirty, and will be right cross with any who soil his silky coat.
He enjoys long, peaceful walks and tending to his garden. Obsessive tidying, sweeping, dusting, and organizing are signs that he is stressed, whether he realizes it or not.
Willow can almost always be found listening to the runebox he inherited from his uncle Shingo, who mysteriously disappeared when Willow was a teen. Most often he listens to lofi music, philosophical lectures, and supernatural reports from Harvest Moon.
History

Willow was unfortunately born to the High Priest of the Harvest Moon Society, Tanaka Morikami, and his partner Hikaru. The Morikami are the high class nobles of the clans, and this specific line has held the seat of High Priest for centuries.

Tanaka never showed affection, kindness, or compassion towards Willow. A complete narcissist, he viewed Willow as nothing but his heir, his clay to mold into his own image. He was delighted to discover that Willow was a prodigy, scoring higher marks in all subjects than ever recorded in the history of Harvest Moon. But this did nothing good for Willow, it only increased his father’s ego. Tanaka was so obsessed with having the most intelligent son that he forced him to do nothing but study, testing him constantly, never allowing him to spend time with other pups or play. If Willow missed a single question on an exam or homework, he was severely punished, beaten, and had what few privileges he was given taken away.

This abuse only worsened as Willow got older, as Tanaka began to realize that Willow was nothing like him. Where Tanaka craved power and status, Willow was modest, immaterial, and wished for anonymity. The more controlling his father became, the more Willow rebelled.

His ultimate form of rebellion? Dating a Shinigami, of course, for the two clans had long been at odds. Though Willow did not date Moro for this reason, the fact that their relationship was scandalous made it even more appealing to teenage Willow.

When Tanaka realized what was happening, his twisted mind blew a fuse, and he set out to commit a truly heinous crime to separate the two. Though he succeeded in pulling Moro away from Willow, his son only continued to disappoint him.

After graduating from the Harvest Moon Academy, Willow married Kurai Shinigami, strike 1, and completely refused to be the high priest after Tanaka, strike 2. Tanaka disowned him, banished him from the Morikami clan, and destroyed his academic records.

From there, Willow left everything behind to start a new life with Kurai, Kurai’s brother Takashi, and Takashi’s mate Jackie, who became Willow’s new family. The family grew when Takashi and Jackie had their first born, Koto, and a few years later they had Dev.

Despite Tanaka’s attempt to sabotage Willow’s career by destroying his academic records, the Shinigami clan were well aware of Willow’s abilities, in particular the Titanus Syndicate, who were eager to hire him as an alchemist and forensic scientist for supernatural cases.

Relationships

Nephew - Willow has a close bond with Dev, the youngest of his two nephews who come to live with him. Dev is so young when he comes to live with him that Willow feels a strong parental bond towards him, as though Dev is his own son. Though he is deeply protective and loving towards both pups, his emotional attachment to Dev makes it hard for him to be separated from him, even after Dev grows up.

Nephew - wild and hyper with a fiery personality like his late parents, Willow finds Koto to be challenging to handle. His boundless energy and constant needs for attention and stimulation are exhausting for a quiet, slow-paced soul like Willow, and he certainly tries his patience. Even so, Willow does his best to simply redirect Koto’s energy in productive ways. In a way, this need to find outlets for the pup’s energy force Willow to get out more and be more present, helping him to break out of the cycle of grief and despair he was suffering from.

Friend - Willow meets Danni when Dev and Danni’s pup Raiza meet and become friends. The two families end up becoming neighbors, and Danni’s kind and warm presence becomes something Willow didn’t realize he needed. Danni often offers to pupsit to allow Willow time to himself or to spend with Moro, but he also invites Willow and Moro along for outings, backyard gatherings, even holiday get-togethers. Willow comes to realize that Danni is a delightful friend that he wouldn’t know what to do without.

Bonded Partner (deceased) - Willow and Kurai had known each other since they were small pups, they played together often along with Kurai’s brother Takashi, and their cousin Moro. After Moro broke Willow’s heart when they were teens, Willow was surprised when Kurai suddenly began to express interest in him, becoming his shadow and constantly striving for his attention, albeit quietly. This was one of the darkest and most painful times of Willow’s life, so Kurai’s quiet, steady presence became a comforting crutch for him, and the two were bonded not long after graduating from academy. Willow loved Kurai, but there was always something missing, as though his soul longed for something that Kurai simply didn’t possess. Even so, he remained content and loyal to him until Kurai, Takashi, and Takashi’s bonded partner Jackie were killed.

Soulmate Description

“I hate your stupid face.” But please don’t let go… - Willow, with love 💛

Willow’s relationship with Moro has been complicated from the very beginning. As pups, Willow found Moro to be annoying in every way possible. Obnoxious, noisy, messy, and always dragging him (sometimes literally) into trouble.

And yet, in spite of his shortcomings, Moro was always there for him, always the first to stand up for him, the one to fight off any bully that dared to mess with him, the shoulder that was always there to cry on when his parents abused him…

Moro made certain that Willow didn’t have to face anything alone. He was there to comfort, protect, and bring a smile to his tear-stained face.

As they got older, this bond only became stronger.
