HISTORY

Kielas was made of snow and ice and brought to life as a Felvarg puppy, a gift from the goddess herself to Zephyr and Isolfr. His fur was as pristine and fluffy as untouched snow, a gorgeous winter coat perfect for his home.

Zephyr wanted a child but was unsure how to care for it, or how to handle it; he was left alone for most of his childhood to explore the icy halls in his lonesome. He wandered on his own, timidly greeting the guards he passed, making endless turns in a frigid blue maze. His home felt much like his mother - cold, matter of fact, not a snowflake out of place. But outside? Outside he could see, just outside the walls that kept him in; chaos and strife. He had no desire to see the outside, it was just more white and an endless chill. Inside, he was safe.

As he grew, slowly his parents gave him more of the time of day. They trained him, trying to turn their timid boy into a fearless warrior. It felt like they were trying to pack powder into ice; he kept crumbling under their icy touch. They were so eager for him to hurry and grow; they commissioned royal armor that was far too big for him, and a ruler’s circlet he never wanted to wear. WIP

Máni Máni has been a loyal friend to Kielas’s parents for centuries, far before they sequestered themselves in an unreachable part of Jörmungandr. When they asked the antisocial scholar for a favour, he relented only because of their history, and travelled to their ice palace to tutor Kielas. The titan, much like the king and queen, did not often hold personal attachments. Máni Máni was hard on Kielas, pushing him to his limits every day. While watching the young prince work day and night, desperately hoping for even a loving smile thrown his way, something softened his heart. Day by day, he even began to grow fond of the boy. He would never be caught dead admitting it to anyone, but he certainly did his best to help Kielas when he returned to Jörmungandr as a favour to the gods.

Zephyr is the queen of ice and chilling winds, and her attitude towards her son isn't much different. For many years she prayed for a child, but truly she just wanted an heir. When Freyja blessed her, she was overjoyed with the prospect of a royal successor to raise and a young mind to mold to her values. When Kielas was a puppy, she didn’t give him the time of day. Only as he grew and became more capable did his parents deem him worthy of their attention, when they began to work him day and night training in arts and combat.

To Zephyr, Kielas is merely the prince; barely family, not her son. Instead, he is her finest creation. Kielas always received her praises with a torn heart, some tiny part of him always hoping she would crack and show him a glimmer of affection. As he grew older and became more desperate for their love, he began to realize they held none for him.
