Personality
Ulthar is cryptic and quiet, a necromancer by trade, though he doesn't openly announce this. He seems to stare at everyone with a strange hunger in his eye that chills one's soul, he does his best to conceal but it always manages to sneak through his expressions. He tends to stick to himself, sly and nimble he slinks about burial grounds and graveyards, the rare times he's spotted, he can be seen performing dark magics and awakening those that have been put to rest.
History

Ulthar was a skilled pyromancer in life, and dedicated his time to learning and perfecting his craft. Fueling the fire of any aspirations he had, and burning whatever obsticles stood in his way. Except for one thing. Age withered him like dying embers, he feared the end, not wanting his spark to go out. His study took him down darker paths of magic, he learned he could extend his own life by snuffing out others. He was hesitant at first, how could he possibly weigh his life over another's. But his obsession, his fear of death weighed on him far more. He started small, prey from hunts, it was only appropriate, their bodies he'd feed on anyways, why not their souls as well.

It was enough for a time, but the longer he lived, the more lifeforce he needed to sustain himself. Small prey didn't cut it any longer. With his first kill, a stranger torched by his dark flame, death truly lost its first tooth.

But with it, came the consequences of his crimes. Chased and hunted by those who cared for the victims he took. He escaped natural death, but now he needed to escape the unnatural. Learning darker magics still, he taught himself to raise the dead. They became his soldiers, his protection, and a well of knowledge. The dead have plenty tales to tell if you know how to force it out of them...

His undead could only stand for so long, before the magic wanes and they'd return to the soil to rest, and the more he summoned, the more souls he craved. As a final security measure, Ulthar cleaved his own soul from his body and stored it in a secret and sacred object to him. A phylactery, a backup, hidden somewhere safe. For if his physical body should be felled, then his dark spirit could linger on and be reborn.

A monster in natt's clothing, a defiler of graves, devourer of souls, a lich.

Relationships

My daughter...

I will raise you, my blood, you shan't ever fear life without a father. In time I will teach you my ways, I will free you from Death's fangs, and the soil of these lands will never claim you.

We can watch the eons pass together.

Child you're lucky. Was I not within the throes of that rhyming plague, you would not have snuck past my watch.

My daughter likes you. That's what saves you now. But yet - a wild heart such as your own, I would hope, will be capable of protecting her in the rare circumstances I may not be present.

Break her heart however and I break you.

Interactions

Who knew a stay at that little hotel of yours would be so...full of surprises.

Such a clever form you hide in, Shoggoth. How curious you choose to serve others beyond your master.

Your services were ever so fruitful my dear~

Unharmed as promised, not that you would know anything about the little deal that protects you.

The necromancer approaches the rumoured place he'd find her, and find her he had, despite the natt's small stature and the ever present knot of paranoia that dwells in his undead heart, he walks with the confidence of a titan past the hrosven, and towards the entrance of the caravan.

"Lady Nightfall," Ulthar greets with a distinguished bow of his head. The Herald of Twilight was perhaps one of the few he still held a level of respect for.

"I find myself in need of your council." He sits across from her, twin tails flicking behind him as he glances from her to the cards that hold his fate. "I have all but ensured that death's fangs have lost their bite, but still the fear of my mortal coil being severed lingers deep." He pauses a moment, the air heavy with a truth he had never told to anyone before, he knew the risks of revealing something so personal, but there was the thinnest sliver of hope that she would have the answers he sought. "I ask of you to peer into my future. Does it truly span for eons as I've intended? Or is there ruin? Should the latter be true, I must further plan contingencies."

Nightfall receives the bow without mockery, though Ulthar's confession earns something far more interesting, and something mostfel never see; recognition. “You tore your soul from your body, buried it somewhere precious, and still death frightens you.” Her gaze lingers upon him. “How very mortal of you.” One claw draws the deck between them. “Very well, necromancer. Let us see whether eternity has accepted your arrangements.”

She draws.

The first card Nightfall draws is 'The Endless (Reversed)'.
“You sought eternity. Interesting that eternity itself appears uncertain.”
The Endless reversed does not promise Ulthar the permanence he seeks. His efforts have stretched the boundaries of mortality considerably, but something remains unresolved. Immortality built upon constant preservation is not the same as invulnerability, and whatever sustains him may someday demand change, adaptation, or a price he has not yet considered.

The next 3 cards Nightfall draws are:

Nine of Fangs (Upright)
“There is death's sharpest remaining tooth... the one inside your own mind.”
Ulthar has conquered much of what once made death inevitable, yet his fear has survived every safeguard. Paranoia may become more dangerous than mortality itself, driving him toward increasingly extreme contingencies without ever granting the certainty he seeks.

Seven of Runes (Upright)
“You have invested considerably in tomorrow.”
Ulthar's work has not been meaningless. Patience, preparation, and careful cultivation have given his unnatural existence roots far deeper than those of an ordinary mortal. The future may indeed stretch far ahead, but maintaining it will require continued attention rather than complacency.

The Shattered Sky (Upright)
“Ah. There is your ruin.”
Something eventually threatens the structures Ulthar considers secure. The Shattered Sky warns of sudden upheaval capable of exposing weaknesses even meticulous preparation failed to anticipate. It does not necessarily foretell his final death, but it does promise that something he believes permanent will not remain untouched.

Nightfall leaves you with parting words:
Nightfall's claw settles upon the Shattered Sky. “You wanted eons, Ulthar. The cards have not denied them to you.” Her gaze shifts toward the Endless. “But eternity is a very long time for something to go wrong.” A smirk pulls at the side of her muzzle. “Plan your contingencies if it comforts you. Hide your soul beneath another mountain. Raise another army.” She leans closer. “Just understand this... you may have stolen death's certainty, necromancer, but you have not stolen change. Even immortals must learn how to survive becoming something else.”
