Alberich is a powerful enchanter, one of Vessra’s favorite magic-users, and he often works in close collaboration with Vessra to help her achieve her goals. No one knows how long he’s walked this land, and many call him Time’s Endless Embrace in homage to his ancient existence. It’s unclear how exactly he’s achieved his immortality - perhaps Time itself merely favors him - but the strength of his body, mind, and magic has not faded in all the years he’s lived.

As head enchanter of the Briar Syndicate, Alberich maintains an important position in Vessra's inner court. So finely honed are his magical abilities that he rarely has need of any assistive tools, capable of performing enchantments with only his bare paws and a library's worth of incantations that he has memorized over millennia. In spite of the great power he holds, he maintains a rather calm and humble demeanor typical of an older gentleman, speaking to others in a soft tone with politeness and respect. Gentle and patient, he enjoys spending time with kittens and passing on his ample knowledge where he can.

However, he wasn't always this way, and hides a shadowy past. Alberich is fiercely loyal to Vessra as a result of a debt to her. He assists her with any requests she may have without question or hesitation, even if there's an uncomfortable nagging in the back of his mind about the morality of her goals. He tells himself he is indebted to Vessra, but part of the truth is that Alberich is a very insecure individual and lacks independence -- Vessra and the Briar Syndicate provide him with a sense of security that he is unwilling to give up. Perhaps one day he will pull his head out from under the sand, but not any time soon.

History

Once a power-hungry but cowardly mage, much of Alberich's past was spent exploiting the abilities of the Yggdravixen, who he manipulated and blackmailed in exchange for their gift of immortality, believing it would help conquer his fear of death. Eventually, he was run off by the Yggdravixen when they discovered just how flighty he was, and carried a bounty on his head for centuries. It was enough time for Alberich to do some self-reflection and realize the errors of his ways, though his fear of facing those he had harmed knowing he likely wouldn't be forgiven kept him hiding in the shadows, keeping his tracks covered through use of his powerful magic. At some point, Alberich's abilities would capture the attention of Vessra. She generously offered to "handle" Alberich's bounty and clear his name in exchange for his services and loyalty, and Alberich, eternally grateful, obliged and joined the Briar Syndicate.
