History

Once upon a time...

Many centuries, perhaps even thousands of years ago, there was a sorceress by the name of Hekate. [human section is a wip]

Then... War broke out. And the plague. Oh Gods, the plague. Hekate wanted nothing to do with it, except to heal those on any side who were wounded. But her reputation for being extremely skilled at magic passed around, with both Fel and Man attempting to trick her into enchanting their items and giving them a magical advantage over each other. She watched as they willingly allowed their kin around them to die as they searched for new ways to kill each other. With each passing day, her heart grew darker and darker and she became more and more bitter. The sorceress who once used her magic for good and to heal, began to use it to hurt and to protect only herself. Only those who pledged to stand alongside her, no matter if they were Fel or Man, were granted her divine protection. As the war continued on, so did the ravaging sickness, and no matter how many defenses she could muster up, it infiltrated and made the humans who stood alongside her in peace deathly ill. Knowing the plague was always fatal to humans, Hekate had previously decided to remain in her Felvarg form for her own safety, and felt a pang of guilt as she watched her human brethren slowly die. Not wishing to prolong their suffering, she mixed up a concoction that allowed them to pass peacefully in their sleep and let them consume it if they wanted to. Within mere days, it was just her and her Felvarg followers now. Man was no more.

And that was that. The Felvargs won that war simply by outliving them. Heartbroken and angry, she lowered her now useless defenses and cast out her Felvarg followers. What purpose was there now? Gods, she hated everything and everyone. She hated Odin for giving her this "blessing" and irking Loki. She hated Loki for being the catalyst to this mess. She hated Fenrir for being responsible for the mass deaths with the blood plague he created. She should have died alongside the humans. But here she was now. Alive. As a Felvarg. What a horrible thing to be. She despised looking at her own reflection now, when before she marveled at this form she had been given. Tears began to seep from her eyes and crash into the ground beneath her. Her legs gave out, and she laid on the ground crying and crying for everything that had been lost. She could have killed herself. She thought about it, deeply. But eventually, the tears dried and the dark thoughts within her had hardened. This was the exact moment she let herself go to the darkness from which she would never come back from. She was now a wicked witch. And the world would pay for all the injustices it had done. No matter how long it takes.

She shed the name Hekate and became Hecate instead. A small change, but she felt it made a difference. She was still herself, but also something new. It felt fitting.
