Personality
Lucifer is notoriously unpleasant to interact with - he possesses a dry, biting sense of humor and frequently masks his intelligence behind sarcasm and blunt observations. He has little patience for foolishness, carelessness, or needless dramatics, and he is not above insulting someone who has created their own misfortune. His remarks are often delivered with a seriousness that makes it difficult to tell whether he is joking or genuinely irritated, and more often than not, it is a combination of both.

Despite his abrasive nature, Lucifer is highly observant and more compassionate than he allows others to believe. He takes immense pride in his healing and finds genuine satisfaction in discovering new remedies, refining old methods, and witnessing the recovery of those under his care. Few things bring him more authentic happiness than seeing young lives flourish after his intervention.

He enjoys learning and values knowledge above nearly all else. New discoveries, obscure herbs, forgotten spells, and unusual ailments all captivate him. Though he generally keeps others at arm’s length, his curiosity remains one of the few things capable of breaking through his otherwise gruff demeanor.

At his core, Lucifer is a wounded healer. He protects himself through distance, sarcasm, and transactions because they provide structure and predictability in a world that has repeatedly reminded him that love and attachment often ends in loss.
History

General Overview

Lucifer is a shaman of high esteem, his many years providing him immense knowledge and wisdom.  He has become something of a living legend within the territories surrounding his home.  Most know his name, but very few can claim to have actually met him.  Those who have been able to meet him often recount the experience with equal parts of gratitude and unease.  He is a healer without equal, a master of herbs, tinctures, and old magic whose knowledge spans across centuries.  Countless lives have been saved by his intervention, and countless others have sought him out in pursuit of remedies, curses, blessings, and revenge.

Although he is highly respected for his craft, Lucifer is equally feared for the conditions under which he practices it.  Nothing he offers comes without cost.  Every medicine, spell, and favor carries a price determined solely by him.  The payment may take the form of coin, knowledge, artifacts, rare ingredients, or something more personal.  The value of the price is never arbitrary; it is weighed against the request, the intentions of the petitioner, and Lucifer’s own interests.

He is a morally gray individual, one who refuses to see the world in absolutes.  He has aided murderers and saints alike, provided they could justify their reasons and afford his services.  Despite his flexibility, there are lines that he will still never cross.  He will not knowingly bring harm upon the young of any species, of any sort.  On these matters, he is unwavering.

To many, Lucifer is an intimidating recluse and a difficult wolf to understand.  To others, he is the last refuge when all hope has been exhausted.  He has become the sort of figure spoken of in hushed tones around campfires:  the ancient shaman who lives at the edge of a redwood forest, who can heal almost any affliction, grant nearly any request, and who always asks for something in return.

Age & Longevity

Lucifer is several centuries old, however very little about his appearance would clue you in to his true age. He possesses the look of a mature adult in the prime of their life, neither youthful nor elderly, as though time itself ceased to leave its mark upon him long ago. The passing of seasons, the rise and fall of generations, and the death of friends and acquaintances have all occurred around him while he remained largely unchanged.

His longevity is not the result of a spell or a curse but an innate quality of his ancient bloodline. While this life has afforded him immense wisdom and an unparalleled understanding of medicine and magic, it has also burdened him with losses that shorter-lived creatures can scarcely comprehend. He has witnessed countless beginnings and endings, learned lessons that have taken lifetimes to acquire, and accumulated memories so numerous that some have become difficult to distinguish from the dreams he has at night.

To Lucifer, immortality is both a gift and a burden. He values the endless opportunities for learning, discovery, and mastery of his craft, yet he carries the weight of grief that comes with surviving nearly everyone he has ever known. He would never willingly surrender his long life, but neither does he view it as an unquestionable blessing.

History & Origins

Lucifer was born of two wolves who were also magic users, skilled in a wide variety of areas of magic, who sought nothing more extraordinary than a peaceful life together.  Though gifted in their own right, they were not renowned shamans or legendary figures, merely two individuals who possessed magic and hoped to build a family within an often uncertain world.  It was from them that Lucifer inherited both his innate magical abilities and his affinity for healing.

His childhood started out well enough, he had good times and enjoyed his time with his parents, however - it was tragically cut short.  While he was still very young, a rogue band of wolves tainted with some sort of unknown disease began to plague the land around his childhood home, and while they were on the loose they happened to infect Lucifer’s parents.  Despite making every effort to cure them, he was unable to save them.  Their deaths would become the defining wound of his life.

The trauma of losing his parents at such a young age left his memories fragmented and incomplete.  After centuries had passed, he remembers surprisingly little with certainty.  He recalls pieces rather than whole moments:  the smell of herbs drying in the sunlight, the sound of distant voices, flashes of magic, and impressions of warmth and safety.  Their faces have become blurred by time, and some memories are so indistinct that he cannot tell whether they are genuine recollections or inventions created by grief.

Their deaths forged the foundation of the wolf he would become.  Determined never to feel that same helplessness again, Lucifer dedicated himself to the study of medicine, herbs, and magic.  He pursued knowledge relentlessly, often to the point of isolation, believing that if he learned enough, mastered enough, and understood enough, he might one day prevent another tragedy like his own.

Yet despite centuries of learning, one truth continues to haunt him: all of his knowledge came too late to save the two individuals who mattered most to him.

Philosophy on Revenge & Justice

Lucifer’s relationship with vengeance is deeply personal and complex.  The wolves who were responsible for bringing disease to his parents were never identified, and their fate remains unknown to this day.  Though he has spent centuries pursuing knowledge and healing, the question of what became of them has never fully left him.  He often wonders whether they are still in the land of the living, or whether they perished long ago.

Because of this, Lucifer does not condemn revenge outright.  He understands the desire to seek justice, closure, or retribution in a way that few others can.  However, he approaches such matters with caution and scrutiny.  He does not grant curses, poisons, or dangerous favors lightly, and demands context, evidence, and considerable compensation before he will even entertain such requests.

He believes intentions matter.  The circumstances surrounding a wrongdoing matter.  The consequences matter.  To him, morality is rarely black and white, and justice often occupies a gray and uncomfortable middle ground.

At times, Lucifer quietly questions whether he should let go of his own pursuit of answers.  He recognizes that his inability to fully move on has shaped much of his life and personality.  Yet every time he considers relinquishing his search, he is confronted by the same lingering feeling:  that something remains unresolved, some final piece of the story still waiting to be uncovered.

As a result, he exists in a state of contradiction.  He is a healer who cannot mend his own oldest wound, a teacher of consequences who remains bound by his own unfinished business, and a wolf who understands forgiveness without being entirely capable of granting it to himself.
