Ambriel’s friends, though she does not keep many close, are often considered her crew, her mates, and Ambriel would do anything for them. She is quite reliable and ensures that those she is close to know that they can come to her when in a rough spot. She is committed to them even if that means fighting tooth and nail against an opponent that is sure to win. Because of this, she can come off as too protective, bordering on possessive and overbearing. She is also stubborn, has a fondness of ale and other indulgences, and is often ready for a fight, even over petty disagreements or vague threats. She is very prickly towards strangers, and one has to put in much work if they wish to earn her trust and loyalty. Despite this, once she is on your side it is near impossible to lose her as an ally.

HISTORY

Ambriel's Tracker

Ambriel remembers little of her parents. Born near Hearth to a half-feral pack, her earliest memories are of the ocean. Crashing waves and whipping winds would come in with the storms, battering her small body and soaking her to the bone- and yet, these moments only made Ambriel feel alive. As a pup, Ambriel was a bit of a troublemaker, often sneaking into Hearth to steal from fish and meat stalls. Cursed with a poor nose and a clumsy foot, Ambriel had little success in tracking, and faced with her thievery, her parents would often punish her by withholding dinner. These circumstances led only to more hunger and thievery- until Ambriel was taken in by a salty-bearded old Captain. For many months she was trained by this old Fel- learning to swim in the dangerous waters of Hongerige, following the movements of schools of fish, and monitoring the weather.

The time came for this old Captain to set sail once more, and she asked Ambriel to join her crew. Ambriel, having left her feral pack long ago, agreed. Again came a long period of training; learning to sail was quite possibly the hardest trial Ambriel had ever gone through. Navigation did not come easy to the new sailor, and Ambriel found the information slipping from her mind many times. The consequences of her mistakes were often biting; the ship would take damage, the crew would bark insults and haze her. Being exposed to the elements physically beat her down. Ambriel fought her way through a year of headaches, sunburnt noses, and a bruised ego.. But she prevailed. Her skills began to develop. The map of the stars began to stick. Her paws tied each and every knot quickly and nimbly. Her muscles became solid; the puppy fat that remained on her body melted off. By the end of her trial year, Ambriel was a true sailor.

When the ship docked in Hearth and set sail again, Ambriel was among them. Her pay increased- from a few bare rations and coins to extravagant riches. The ship's biscuits soaked in bitter coffee became fluffy, white flour. The dried jerky became salted pork and fish. And best of all, the brackish water became golden ale. Ambriel's spirits soared, and she threw her whole being- body, mind, and soul- into her work. The bitter crew soon took notice of this young pup's dedication. They saw her fatigue, her blistered paws, and her folded brow as she concentrated. More and more, the crewmates warmed up to this new sailor. Many nights of singing together, of drinking, of battling the wind and waves, formed a bond between them all.
